Crab cakes
Homemade crab cakes without the hassle

Tips
Pan frying vs baking
I pan fry these in shallow oil most of the time. This gives you the deep crispy outside may look for in a crab cake. However, you can also bake them! After chilling the patties, brush with melted butter or preferred oil. Bake crab cakes at 375F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Note if you’re looking for similarly golden brown crab cakes, you should brush them generously with butter or oil.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 20 minutes | Serving size: 4-6 cakes

Gather
- 2 large eggs, divided
- 3 tablespoons mayo
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning, more as needed
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic granules, more to taste
- ½ teaspoon black pepper, more as needed
- 1 pound lump crab meat (canned or fresh, but I prefer fresh)
- 1¼ cup panko bread crumbs, divided
- ⅓ cup roasted red bell pepper, cleaned and finely chopped
- ⅓ cup shallots, finely chopped
- Salt, as needed
- ¼ cup parsley, finely chopped
- Frying oil
Follow
- Prepare crab cake mixture: In a small bowl, combine 1 egg, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, Cajun seasoning, garlic granules and pepper.
- Go through the crab meat and pick out any shells. Place cleaned meat in a large bowl. Combine with ½ cup breadcrumbs, diced red peppers and shallots. Add in mayo mixture. Add salt or additional pepper if you’d like.
- Form into the desired number of patties (anywhere between 4 to 5 patties). I’d recommend placing formed patties in the fridge for at least 30 minutes; this will make them easier to handle.
- Sprinkle the remaining breadcrumbs in a shallow dish, and season with salt, pepper and Old Bay if you’d like. Beat the remaining egg in another shallow dish. Gently brush crab cakes in egg wash. Transfer to the breadcrumb dish and gently coat in breadcrumbs.
- Heat a bottom-heavy skillet with at least a 1½-inch lip. Pour enough vegetable oil for at least ¼-inch of oil in the pan. Cook crab cakes for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, until cakes are browned.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, over a salad or with your favorite sides.
